Thankfulness and the Family

I don’t know about you, but I’ve realized the older I get, the more thankful I become. I hate to say it, but when I was younger, I wasn’t very thankful. As a young adult, I felt like I was entitled to just about anything I wanted.

I am so thankful that the Lord taught me the truth. While chastisement is never easy, my horrible first marriage resulted in three of my most cherished blessings. My children. After my first husband’s death, I learned a lot. Life wasn’t all about me after all!

Despite all of my shortcomings, God showed me mercy. He was so merciful to bring my amazing husband into my life. He was so merciful to bless our family with our sweet children. He was merciful to truly show me His ways, and to lead me in His truth. He was merciful to plant the seeds to homeschool my children in my heart when I was still a young, disobedient, nineteen-year-old. Lately, He has been merciful to move us to a new state in His perfect timing. Ladies, He is merciful always!

Through His great mercy, I’ve realized just how thankful I should be for my family. They are a legacy straight from Him, and they should be cherished. Always.

As my children grow I’ve been stretched, but in a good way. Ultimately they belong to the Lord, but I that in spite of all of my shortcomings, He’s allowed me to be their mother on this earth.

It is even a good thing to be thankful for difficult seasons within our families. If we are following God, He is refining us through these times.

I would like to encourage you to remain faithful to your calling, and to be thankful for all of the little things throughout the day. When I’m discouraged, this really lifts my spirits. It is so easy for our fallen nature to focus on the negatives surrounding us, while in reality, the Lord has left glimpses of His Grace just about everywhere we go. When we are thankful, we are tangibly acknowledging the blessings God has given to us.

Be encouraged as Thanksgiving grows near. Our calling as mothers is so important. The Lord will grow us through this calling, and we should be thankful for it. It is such a blessing to be able to spend my days with my family. Let’s quiet our hearts and let our soul fill with gratitude. I’m so thankful for this wonderful gift!

Oh, yes, He is refining us. The one thing you said about our children are His. Wow, great observation, I fail to see that sometime. Wonderful post as always! Thanks for sharing at Home Sweet Home!
