Early Summer Large Family Happenings

What a blessed (and busy) last few weeks it has been! I’ve tried to sit down to write a new post for several days now. Mabrey hit the “terrific twos” stage a few months early and she has been keeping me on my toes. She actually agreed to take a nap today, ha!

At the end of May, we took a trip to the Smoky Mountains while our oldest daughter attended a Christian Writer Retreat. It was fun, but draining. I’m so thankful to be home and back into our normal routine. I can’t tell you how much I enjoy our times of Sabbath rest from sundown Friday through Saturday. It is lovely to spend special time with our family and reflect on our Father’s goodness!

Our homeschool slows down over the summer months, but I still look for good opportunities for learning. Summer is a good time for us to practice skills that were learned over the past school year. Since Maverick is an early reader, we are keeping up with reading time. Makynlee wants to learn how to read, too. It is so cute, y’all. Today she brought an early reader outside and read to me as I hung clothes on our clothes line. She is doing so good!

After we returned home from our trip, I decided to go ahead and start a small vegetable garden. We are super late in the game, but I am having so much fun. We started a garden last year right before our move, but it kind of was forgotten during the moving excitement over the summer. I honestly don’t know what I’m doing, and am learning as I go. We are also thinking about adding to our small chicken flock!

The LORD has been so good, and I really feel like He has been leading us to live a more simple life. We have been changing a lot of things, even toys! I’m not a huge fan of battery operated toys and we like to stick to wooden items whenever possible. This wooden musical toy is one of my favorites. It has been passed down through several children. Mabrey likes it too!

Financially, our goal is still to pay off our mortgage as early as possible. We knocked $3,000 off of the principle amount this month. I’ve been working on Etsy orders and sharing Mary & Martha when I can. Home businesses are awesome. I really believe ladies both young and old benefit from them. Besides being a way to bring in income, home businesses protect us from the world and allow us to watch over our homes and children.

The Ibotta app has also been a huge blessing to us financially. We’ve received over $73 cash back from our normal purchases since the beginning of May!

Blessings from the Father are everywhere. They abound. I’m so grateful to Him for all He has done. He has changed the heart of a selfish worldly girl to a homeschooling mom of eight who craves the simple. Only God! He is amazing!

So, what have y’all been up to? I hope everyone is having a lovely and blessed summer so far!

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places.

  2. Nice hearing from you . I enjoy your posts. Maverick sounds like he is going to be a great reader. Good for him. That is so cute and very good that Makynlee wants to read at an early age. Keep up the reading little one. Wishing you a happy and restful summer.
