Time to Be Thankful

Happy Thanksgiving week, ladies! I can hardly believe that December is almost here, and the year will soon be over.

Out of all of the weeks of the year, this week seems like the most important time to be thankful. I mean, Thanksgiving is in a few days! But instead, I must admit that I have been kind of grumbly inside of my spirit.

My college girl is finally home for the week, but we had to send her to her grandmother’s house over an hour away since she is sick. While we cannot knowingly bring sickness into our home with a newborn, oh, how this has been hard on my mama heart.

I’ve missed her so much, and now I feel like I’m still missing out. It is so easy to remember all of the things I should be so grateful for.

The Lord has blessed us exceedingly and abundantly. We have nine precious children, and an almost paid off home. And yet, it is so easy to grumble, instead of being thankful.

Us silly humans tend to look at our burdens instead of our blessings, don’t we? I do this far too often.

Instead of looking at this time my daughter is away as a negative, I need go look at the bright side. She is spending some much needed time with her grandmother, and Lord willing, we will be able to see her in a few days.

Every day, no, every minute is the time to be thankful. Waiting for every circumstance to be “good” in my own eyes only breeds discontentment. This is no good!

In everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

1 Thessalonians 5:18

We are called to give thanks in all circumstances because if we are in Christ, all things will work for our good. Perhaps we need to strengthen our patience. I know I do! Trying situations will do just that.

I hope and pray that you have a lovely week with your families. Let’s remember that as believers, thankfulness should be a way of life. With God’s help, we can do it.
