Life in Our Home || May 2020

May is here! Goodness, the days have been running together lately. Days at home have overall been the same for me during quarantine, but I have been avoiding the stores as much as I can. Our state is officially “reopened,” but I’m more than happy to stay put a while longer.

My baby turned six months old today. Six months. How can that be? It has gone both slowly and quickly at the same time. He is the sweetest little guy, and we are so blessed to have him. He is sleeping on my lap right now, and I’m just soaking it in! He tried his first bit of baby food today, and he wasn’t sure what to think!

Our homeschool year is wrapping up, and the kids are looking forward to more free time. Today is the last official day for a few of my children. My older guys have a bit more to do before they are finished.

We’ve been gardening on our hillside, and reading about keeping dairy goats. If all goes well and we close on our new fixer upper later in the month, I have big plans. We want to add turkeys, ducks, and goats to our home, along with an additional livestock guardian dog. I must admit that the thought of getting another mortgage pains me, but at the same time, living in a home where we cannot up our self-sufficiency efforts pains me as well. We are still negotiating with the seller regarding repairs, so nothing is set in stone just yet.

I’ve been learning about canning, and I’ve actually successfully made sourdough bread three times within the last couple of weeks. We are doing what we can to store dry goods long term, and had a blast doing so in our living room a few days ago. I really enjoyed the book, A Year Without the Grocery Store, found here. Long term food storage can bring a lot of peace to a mama’s heart and mind.

I hope you have are having a lovely time this spring with your family!
