Change that Mindset, Mama

What have you been focusing on lately? As a believer, I know my mind should be focused on Christ and what He has done for me. I should remember His command to not fear, and take it seriously. And yet, when I pick up my phone in the morning to check the news, my heart is usually filled with worry.

Are there any other mamas in the same boat? Living in the age of Covid-19, the feeling is hard to shake. I worry for my family’s health and safety. I also worry about government overreach, and what might happen in the future.

When my husband calls me during the day, I’m usually a Debbie Downer. And I don’t even know why! Today I believe I had an epiphany as to why I feel and act this way.

I have been spending way too much time thinking about things that are totally outside of my control. If I changed my mindset, and instead, concentrated on the tasks before me, peace is much more likely to come.

My backyard garden. This should bring joy to my heart!

I should be thinking about the lovely things that fill my home. There are more than enough things in my life to fill my mind with goodness. Like my husband. My children. My faith. My sweet little cabin. My garden. The list goes on and on.

Sometimes, we must literally train our minds to focus on the good. As women, we often have a tendency to worry. But we can nip this in the bud with the Lord’s help.

For me, I’m going to do my best to stay away from Facebook, and read the Good Book instead. Facebook is the source of much worry for me. And when I let these worries get to me, I’m not the wife and mama my family deserves.

I honestly don’t believe our bodies were created to process all of the information thrown at us during this age. We can easily be thrown into an elevated state of worry and anxiety just by picking up our phones. We can combat this by turning off the news and laying those phones down. We don’t have to live under a rock, but when we change our mindset and focus on our family, we will be better for it.

Good advice. I needed to hear that as I have been focusing on things beyond my control as well. Thank you for writing this.
