Our Anniversary Gift Has Arrived!

We got the call last week. In March, my husband and I ordered an Amish-made log canopy bed in honor of our anniversary. A splurge, to be sure, but I am super happy with the decision. Rolling words like Amish, log, and canopy bed together makes me feel pretty wonderful.

Anyhow, we got the call that the bed had finally arrived! It was quite the chore to get it here. First, we had to find a way to secure it into the back of my husband’s truck. It was more assembled than we anticipated. We slowly crept our way through the mountains back to our home.

Once we got there, we planned stage 2 of the bed saga. We needed to switch out our current platform with box springs at the cabin. My husband and son took apart our bed, and we loaded it into our truck. Back over the mountain we went, but not before eating yummy Mexican food.

While at the cabin, we moved all of the necessary pieces around. I then settled in to checking out my plants. I clipped a gorgeous hydrangea bloom to bring back to our house, and admired how much our roses had grown. I had brought them from South Carolina, and am trying to train them up our porch. I noticed cucumber plants that had self-seeded from forgotten cucumbers last year. How fun!

A sweet blessing from the Lord! Hydrangeas were our wedding flower.

I thought long and hard about leaving the new bed at the cabin at first. After all, it “fit” there. But in the end, our home won out. I want to enjoy it as much as possible!

While sitting on the porch at the cabin, I noticed storm clouds roll in. Oh, no. We had box springs in the back of the truck! After looking at the radar, we made the decision to drive north to pick up a tarp. This was out of the way, but necessary if we wanted to stay out of the rain. We quickly implemented our plan, and got everything covered before rain started to fall.

I woke up the next morning determined to do some room cleaning and redecorating. I needed to add a few rustic touches to make the bed “fit.”

We pulled out my seed-starting set up and made room in our closet for random things that were sitting in our floor. We picked up new curtains and storage bins at Walmart, and I packed up the kids schoolwork. I added a basket to the wall and a few other wooden pieces to the room.

It is feeling so much nicer in here, and I’m simply in love with our new bed. Once we replace windows and my husband builds a book nook for me, it will be a definite restful retreat! Right now my book stacks are a little out of control.

I adore handcrafted things. They are so special and unique. They remind me of a simpler time, and I enjoy having them in my home.

I hope you have a lovely week. It looks like I will be cleaning my closet as well as emptying a few cabinets stuffed to the brim. They desperately need a clean out. I will also be working on Etsy orders and tending to my garden. Until next time.

Moreover I will give you a new heart. I will put a new spirit within you. I will remove the stony heart from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
