Once upon a time, I craved leaving my home. Every day, I wanted to leave. This is something I’m not proud of. I didn’t understand God’s plan for me to be a keeper at home. I couldn’t keep my home well if I was never there!

Lately, I’ve realized that if I have too many things on my schedule through the week, it just doesn’t feel good. Through time and prayer, the Lord has turned my heart towards the home. Praise Him!

For example, this week we had a dentist appointment, an eye appointment, violin lessons, our grocery run, our cabin closing, and a promised trip to a pumpkin patch.

Just looking at my schedule made me feel kind of anxious. Sure, these were all needful things that we had to do. But would I be able to serve my family well at home through it?

Some things fell through the cracks. I forgot to set out my sourdough starter, so we ate store bought bread with our veggie and quinoa soup last night. I am still one dress shy of my goal of making new pumpkin patch dresses for my little girls. It was nine o’clock last night before I got started sweeping our bedroom and bathroom.

This morning promises to be busy as well. We have lots to do before our violin lesson/house closing extravaganza. Light homeschooling, lunch packing, bathroom cleaning and more are on the agenda before we leave at 10:30 am.

Next week looks to be much slower. Grateful mama here!

Our Heavenly Father wants us to slow down. He wants us to actually hear His voice, and be available to do His will.

I’ve heard it said that if we are too busy to do His will, then we are too busy. Yes, yes, yes. How often do we cram our days full of things and forget to spend time with Him? How often do we choose time wasters like social media instead of reading His Word? How often do we decide to leave our homes and neglect the most important things?

Today’s world is fast paced, and it tells us women that we are wasting our “talents” if we are not in the workforce. It bribes us to leave our homes unguarded, for things like entertainment, or endless appointments as has been my case this week.

Thankfully, we can choose to live slowly and purposely, and tune out the noise. This is countercultural, to be sure!

In the Scriptures, we are taught that our soul should wait silently for God alone. Both waiting and silence are pretty much unheard of in this day and age. But waiting and silence are what we are told to do.

Ladies, I believe we should be praying over our families and our homes, asking God to show us the most important things, and what needs to be cut out. Let’s ask Him to give us a heart for our homes!
