Today, I’m wearing a cotton polka dotted dress which is so very comfortable. In fact, my closet is filled with skirts and dresses. I’ve been wearing them for ten years.

It feels very normal in our home for me to dress this way. I love it. While I do have some Biblical reasons for doing so, I enjoy dressing this way because it makes me feel like a lady. Yes, I know that I’m a woman while wearing pajama pants, but there is just something about wearing a modest skirt that makes me feel more feminine. Perhaps you can relate?

Sometimes I stick out while in public. While at the pumpkin patch a few days ago, I was the only woman wearing a skirt, among hundreds and hundreds of people. I also heard loudness and brashness from our gender. Of course not everyone acted this way, but many did.

Do dresses and skirts make you meek, gentle, and kind? Of course not. God is the one who changes our hearts. But it is commonplace and acceptable in our culture for women to be loud, crass, and to dress like men. In fact, it is encouraged.

We degrade ourselves when we act and dress this way. Professing to be wise, we’ve become as fools. And believe me when I say I’ve been there. Only by God’s goodness have my eyes been opened.

We tell ourselves that there is nothing wrong with the way we dress. We’ve absolutely been desensitized, being born into a culture which has turned it’s back on God. We don’t understand how our clothing choices have been shaped by living in a world already entrenched in rebellion. “Normal clothing” doesn’t seem rebellious to us because it’s all we’ve ever known.

Unfortunately, we are living in rebellious times. Our ancestors fought for “women’s rights,” not knowing that they were in fact stripping our dignity from us. Homes have been abandoned, unborn babies have been murdered, and feminine modesty has been discarded in favor of boyish or suggestive styles. And now, girls can be boys, boys can be girls, you can be anything you like.

This absolutely flies in the face of God’s perfect design. It is an abomination to Him. And by not saying or doing anything, we are going along with it.

Walk into any store, and take a look at the women’s clothing. By and large, it was made to degrade us. We have been reduced to eye candy, and think that by dressing this way, we have been empowered. Ladies, this should not be so!

Why have we accepted this? Why is it so hard to find appropriate clothing today? I promise if we stopped buying, clothing manufacturers would change their course.

I’ve heard it said that the godliness of a society can be measured by the attitude and actions of the women living in it. Ladies, I believe we are in trouble.

But we can make a difference…be the change. We can be “fashion missionaries,” reaching out to a lost world. Yes, we can be missionaries in today’s times without saying a word. We definitely will stick out while wearing modest, feminine clothing in a sea of leggings and cropped, colored, hair.

Yes, I know that Biblically, everyone wore a type of robe. Today I’m trying to convey a cultural point as far as clothing goes, however. What can we wear today, that looks distinctly feminine and modest in our culture? What can we wear that says “I’m a woman” to a very confused world who doesn’t know what God’s genders are anymore?

I would love to encourage you to think and pray on these things. This is the conclusion God has brought me to, but I am not your conscience in the least. Each of our decisions are between ourselves, our husbands, and the Lord (YHWH).

Are we wearing what is convenient and comfortable to us, or have we surrendered even this aspect of our lives to Him? A believer’s life is about surrender, every last bit of it.

He is merciful. He is good. He is worthy to be praised.
