The air is crisp, the nights are cool…Fall is definitely here! I’ve been enjoying all of the outdoor things at our little homestead lately. Fall just makes everything better.
Last week I filmed a short outdoor tour of our home and posted it on YouTube. I wanted to share it with you here as well.
Our garden is pretty much finished for the year, but I still have a couple of odds and ends to harvest, like cucamelons and tomatillos. Fall plant starts are in, and growing. I still need to order some frost covers for my outside area. I’ve expanded into a few more raised beds than last year. I might just use upside down clear totes for most things, since I honestly do not have too large of an area to cover.
Oh, and in the video, I failed to mention that my oldest son was a huge help in putting the garden beds together. A huge help, I tell you.
I planted my small greenhouse with starts from Home Depot. Almost all of my outdoor plants I started from seed. Somehow, I forgot about my greenhouse when I began my starts this summer. Most likely because the cover was off, and I had tomatoes and peppers growing in there. Anyhow, a trip to the store remedied that, and I now have fall vegetables growing in the greenhouse as well. Oh, and I used leaves to mulch around them. Nice and free!
I’m totally late to the game, but I just ordered garlic last week. I’ve never planted garlic before, but it seems easy enough. Do you have any tips?
Our animals are doing well. I need to look into getting a load of gravel delivered to put down in the high traffic areas in our goat pens. Last winter, the yard was a mucky mess, and that was before we owned goats! I really need to get on that.
My husband is still working on our new storage building. The project keeps getting bigger and bigger. It’s funny how that happens. I believe we’ve decided to put in a loft as well. He thinks it will sturdy it up, and also more storage space is always a plus. It’s a win – win!
We are starting to look forward to projects on the horizon. Most likely, we will be putting up more fencing soon. We’d like to rotate our goats to different areas of our property next year. It was difficult to see so many green things for them to eat, that they simply didn’t have access to. So yes, hopefully more fencing will be going in.
Overall, we are settling in for the winter ahead. Our winters are pretty mild, but can be wet and cold. While I’m thankful for all of God’s seasons, it is probably my least favorite.
The Lord (YHWH) has been so good to us this year. It’s been a blessing to see our little fledgling homestead start to grow!
For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, training us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live in a manner that is self-controlled and righteous and godly in the present age. We wait for the blessed hope and appearance of the glory of our great God and Savior, Messiah Yeshua. He gave Himself for us so that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and so that He might purify for Himself a chosen people, zealous for good deeds.
