Slow Living | Thankfulness and Contentment

(The written words below are a transcript for the video I created with my family. I hope you enjoy it.)

“This job of motherhood has been given to me to do. Therefore, it is a gift. Therefore, it is a privilege. Therefore, it is an offering I may make to God. Therefore, it is to be done gladly, if it is done for Him. Here, not somewhere else, I may learn God’s way. In this job, not in some other, God looks for faithfulness.”

-Elisabeth Elliot

What if God uses motherhood to refine us in the areas of thankfulness and contentment?

What if during the daily offering of raising children created in His image, we learn how to be thankful?

There are so many things to be thankful for each day, if we just look. This time we have with our children is a precious gift from the Father.

Most of the time, the simple things in life are the best things in life. We can look at our children and know that they are immense gifts. We can be thankful for the life we’ve been given mamas, even if almost all of our time is spent with our little ones. The most important work we will ever do is within the walls of our own homes.

We can find contentment in the here and now. We don’t need a bigger house or nicer clothing. The blessing of our family is enough.

But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

1 Timothy 6:6-12

Be encouraged today to find contentment in your circumstances, mama. And may you have a very blessed Thanksgiving.

Thanks for reading, and for stopping by today. Many blessings to you and your family.
