Our Long Weekend Plans

Hello, friends. For many of us, the “weekend” is here! My husband is off of work today and tomorrow, and we have several plans for his four days off. Since we don’t celebrate Christmas, it looks like it is going to be a good time to get a few things done around our home! As I type, my husband and oldest son are working on the board and batten siding for our new building. I am very pleased by how it is turning out. I can hardly wait to see what it looks like once the stain is applied.

(Let me pause for a moment, and share a couple of the sweet blessings I’ve been given this week. Flowers from my husband AND a new desk! It’s the little things.)

I am working on some light schooling with my little ones the next few days. I hope to finish up all of our first semester things this week. Ah, what a blessing this will be. Tomorrow, I only need to work through language arts and math with a few of my children. Then, we plan to take time off next week in preparation for the new year.

Speaking of the new year, I still haven’t made any plans for it. We usually have a simple celebration at home. While I believe the Biblical new year is in the spring, I don’t see any harm in recognizing that 2022 will officially begin next weekend. I need to get planning! I hope to figure everything out within the next few days.

We do plan to have a “fun” day on Saturday. We plan on driving a couple hours away to go to an aquarium and to go ice skating. I’ve put together fish themed goodie bags for my kiddos to open when they wake up in the morning. I hope this will be exciting for them. I know this sounds vastly different than Christmas Day for most of you, but we have chosen to try to separate our worship of God away from the many trappings of Christmas. This has been hard for me at times, but I do believe the Lord has led us to this. For those of you who do celebrate, I hope you have a lovely time.

On Sunday, we will either be working on our building some more, or putting in a new tub in our master bathroom. Last Sunday, my husband and I picked up a porcelain tub at The Home Depot, and I’m very excited about it. I like using more “natural” materials when it comes to our home. We don’t always succeed, but this is our goal! Also, acrylic tubs have just not been my favorite. The porcelain tub we chose does have a layer of insulation around it, which should help it retain heat longer. Oh, am I looking forward to taking long baths again! Fixing up our new home has been slow going, but it is so worth it.

I also will be thinking and working through goals for the new year this weekend. Of course, my spiritual and family goals come first. But I also am thinking about some fun financial and fitness goals to implement. While we don’t always succeed when it comes to goals, it is nice to have something to look to when making decisions. Deciding the best course to take is always easier when you have an end goal in mind.

I hope you have a lovely weekend, friends. I hope to be back here on Monday, if not before.

Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no deceit.

Psalms 32:1‭-‬2 NKJV
