Making a Sweet and Beautiful Home

The woman who makes a sweet, beautiful home, filling it with love and prayer and purity, is doing something better than anything else her hands could find to do beneath the skies.

– J.R. Miller

Over the past couple of years, I have been determined to create a sweet and beautiful home. This hasn’t always been easy, especially since we have moved so often to get out of debt. It has been difficult to make a place lovely and beautiful only to leave once again.

But through the moves I’ve discovered that home isn’t simply about the place we live. It is the people who live there. We can make our homes lovely and beautiful no matter where we are as long as we fill them with love, prayer, and purity.

The J.R. Miller quote above encourages me so much, and I hope it encourages you as well. As women, we often ponder what to do with our hands each day. We want to do something important, don’t we? Unfortunately, the world tells us to pursue things that aren’t important at all! Sometimes we go along with it to the detriment of our families.

Yesterday, I felt pretty discouraged. I saw a post on social media with several “influencers” who had met up for the weekend. I’m not quite sure why the post discouraged me so much. Possibly because the women had influence in the “Christian Home and Family” genre, and yet they left their homes and families to meet up.

But most likely, I felt discouraged because I thought I wouldn’t ever measure up to all that these women could seemingly accomplish. Friends, this was wrong of me! Making an income and worrying about those sorts of things isn’t what the Lord has called me to do. He also hasn’t called me to share my life with an enormous audience. Thank goodness! I’m so happy that I do not have to deal with the trials associated with that.

But God has called me to create a beautiful and lovely atmosphere for my family to live in. This is a great calling, friends! We can all make our homes a lovely place with the Lord’s help. We don’t need expensive or trendy items to make our homes a nice place to live. We just need love, prayer, and purity.

Doing these things is the best possible way we can spend our time. Please don’t ever forget that. Simple, sweet, and lovely homemaking is the best way to live.

When we center our lives around the realm of home, we are showing our families that godliness with contentment is great gain. We truly do not need much to have contentment in the Lord!

I hope that you have a lovely day with your families, friends. Be enouraged today!

But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

1 Timothy 6:6-10

God is using you friend. This post comes at the perfect time. Last night my husband and I came to the difficult decision to sell our house which we love, but I feel God’s leading. It will help us pay off much debt. While we are worried about where we will live next, with it likely being a downsize, I know God will take care of us from His glorious riches. I quoted the same scripture to my husband last night from 1Timothy, so I felt that was a confirmation. I can make anyplace we end up a home! Thank you for sharing these words.
