Renewing Our Mind

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Romans 12:2

Yesterday I spent some time making a tote bag for myself. Oh, it was so much fun! I don’t have a lot of fabric on hand right now, but I was determined to use what I have. I chose a farm fabric for the outer shell, and a matching red floral fabric for the inside. I even added a pocket for my pens and stickers.

You see, I made this bag to hold my Bible along with any other books that I am currently reading. I tend to carry along a stack of books with me whenever we go anywhere, and I thought a bag specifically for this purpose would be helpful. It will also make carrying my Bible along with me a bit easier.

Over time I’ve learned that I need to continually renew my mind with the Word of God if I want to walk in His will for me. Bringing my Bible with me when I go places will make this much easier. Sure, I could always read God’s Word on my phone. But there is nothing like thumbing through the pages of a well used Bible. The notes and highlights are so helpful to me while studying.

Making this bag has encouraged me to think of what else I could do to make my time in the Bible more streamlined. I decided to purchase Bible tabs off of Amazon for around $6.00. I’m so excited for these to come in so I can add them to my Bible.

Turning to God’s Word is so important when we are facing trials or hardships. We don’t need self help books, or anything else other than the Bible or Biblical council. I think that we are often led astray when we turn to humanistic teaching instead of Biblical truth.

We also need to be careful when following Biblical teachers or influencers. Over time, I’ve realized that I don’t agree with everything that pretty much any Biblical teacher says. I’ve had to use a lot of discernment, and take their thoughts and ideas to God’s Word to make sure what they are saying is true.

While it feels good to have others around us whose beliefs line up with ours, it is best to not compare ourselves to them. Scripture must always have the final say.

I follow several ladies on social media who share Scriptural truths. Usually, I totally agree with what they have to say. Then the day comes when I don’t. This is usually when I’ve realized that I need to make sure that my focus stays on the Word of God.

Of course, we do not need to agree with our brothers and sisters in Christ about everything. This is absolutely okay. If someone claims to have all of Scripture totally figured out, then be cautious of that person. There have been times where I have followed along with them, only to have God show me a different truth further in my walk with Him.

Let’s not be conformed to this world. We can instead transform by renewing our mind.

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog today, friends. I hope your day is blessed!
