We Have No Sense of Shame

Hello friends, I hope you are having a good week so far. We have had a busy, but blessed day. We currently are picking up groceries and I brought my computer along. I thought I would write to you as we wait.

Sitting here, I am watching many women walking to and from the store. I fear that we have lost our healthy fear of shame in our society. We are now taught to not be ashamed of much anything. One of the results of this is the immodest clothing we see now a days.

When Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit in the garden, they realized that they were naked and were ashamed. I could imagine how terribly they felt since they had such a close connection with God. Their disobedience brought forth terrible consequences.

Once they had knowledge between good and evil, they instinctively knew that they should cover up. Now we are encouraged to uncover our bodies and to forget about the shame we feel when we do so.

This shouldn’t be so! So many young women go along with this, thinking exposing themselves is “normal.” We cannot use our culture as a gauge regarding right and wrong. We just can’t. It will always lie to us.

There are several verses in Scripture that equate nakedness with shame. I’m going to share a few with you below.

Your nakedness will be uncovered, Your shame also will be exposed; I will take vengeance and will not spare a man.

Isaiah 47:3

I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may become rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your nakedness will not be revealed; and eye salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see.

Revelation 3:18

I don’t want my shame to be exposed. The Lord has redeemed me by His blood, and I no longer am in bondage to shame.

When I cover myself in feminine modest clothing, there is no nakedness to feel shameful about.

Shame is definied as a painful emotion caused by the awareness of having done something wrong or foolish, or a condition of humiliating disgrace or disrepute. As God’s daughters, we can avoid this feeling when it comes to our nakedness by covering up.

When we cover ourselves appropriately, we are following the Lord’s example. When Adam and Eve sinned they covered themselves, but not as God would have them to do. He mercifully covered them in a better way.

We should seek the Scriptures and pray that God would show us His will when it comes to this. As for me, at this time I strive to cover myself from neck to knees at all times. I wear a head covering when praying or prophesying (while reading the Scriptures out loud, sharing the Word of God in a blog post, etc.)

I hope you are encouraged today to no longer walk in shame when it comes to nakedness. You don’t have to. You don’t have dress like everyone else does.

It might feel strange to dress for the Lord at first, but what blessings it brings. He is our Father…our Abba! He always wants what is best for us.

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog. I hope you are encouraged to live for the Lord today.
