I am in such a busy season. Perhaps you can relate. It has totally taken me by surprise, and I am trying to find ways to deal with it appropriately.
There have been times in my life when I expected to be very busy. This especially was true each time we added a new member to our family. There were some very busy times when I had a lot of small children and no one to help me with all of the household chores.
I was also super busy whenever my children were enrolled in lots of activities. This was during some of my “foolish years.” I didn’t have time to cook or clean. Instead I was either working on Etsy orders or taking my children to their activities. I hardly had time to think!
But now, I am very busy with good things. We are trying to grow a productive garden and renovate our home. I’m also learning how to cook things from scratch. And now that our homeschool year is starting back, boy am I busy!
I firmly believe that the Lord has given us enough time in each day to accomplish what He wants us to without being extremely hurried. A lot of times, being hurried is a warning sign that something needs to give.
I’ve decided to take a good look at what we have going on, and to make some tweaks.
I know that our homeschool year will fall into a groove soon, and so I am trying to be patient with that. Our second week already seems more organized than our first one, which is great. I will reevaluate things as needed, and hopefully I will only be needed for a couple of hours during the day. The rest of the time my children will work independently.
I’ve decided that next year we should try our best to add more drip irrigation systems to our garden area. This will drastically reduce the amount of time I am needed in the garden. I think this will help out so much!
While I was working on little preservation projects throughout the day, I think that I should designate an hour or so to them all at one time. Unless of course, a large crop comes in. I don’t see that happening for the rest of the year, though.
For the time being, I’m not going to attempt to learn anymore skills! I’ve purchased what I need to make goat milk soap, but I think I’m going to wait a month or so to give it a try. I need to get what I have going on under control, first.
In a couple of weeks, we will be adding violin lessons back to our schedule as well. I know this will be an adjustment, too. But I think before long we will get this busy season under control!
It doesn’t help that whenever my husband starts a new house project I get distracted, ha! I just want to watch the progress and shop for new fixtures and decorations. While this is fun, I can’t let myself forget about the most important tasks in front of me. Raising my children for the Lord and being a good steward of the home He has given me.
If you are in a busy season, take heart. The Lord cares, and He will give us grace to do what needs to get done.
