We Cannot Do It All

Good morning, friends. Thank you so much for visiting the blog today!

It’s the start of a new week, and we are getting back into our routine after the weekend. Yesterday evening we took the family out to eat. We haven’t done that in awhile, and it was super fun.

I want to encourage you today to not overburden yourself. I know as a wife and mom, I tend to do that at times. I either put too much on my plate as a homemaker, or I let my children’s sins and shortcomings weigh on me until I can hardly bear it. Over time I’ve realized while it is my job to correct and encourage my children to live for the Lord, I cannot do it for them. This is not my cross to bear. I have enough sins and problems of my own to worry about.

We need to give God our troubles, and focus our attention on doing the next right thing.

I’d like to share a short excerpt from a book that has encouraged me lately with you today.

“This (overburdening ourselves) is not God’s will for women! He never made us to be able to do everything, and He doesn’t want us to feel like failures. We put ourselves in that situation, whether by worry and mental stress, the number of physical tasks we think we must do, or the expectations we imagine people are holding us to.

We can choose to run the rat race of trying to do it all, and fail. Or we can make changes that will bring rest for ourselves and also reward those dear to us. Rest comes when we allow God to show us where  we are out of our God-given place, tending other vineyards so that we do not have time to properly care for our own. We can give God our troubles and accept the changes He wants to make in our lives.”

  • Flourish by Dorcas Showalter, p. 86

I’d like to encourage you to make changes that will better serve both you and your family if they need to be made. And of course, put God first! He is worthy of all honor and praise. If we ask Him to help us discern what is worthy of our time and attention and what isn’t, He will help us with that.

Thank you so much for stopping by today. Let’s remember to serve our home and family well!
