A Homemaker’s Morning || July 28, 2021

July is slipping away, and it’s almost August. How can that be? I can hardly believe it. Our homeschool will be starting soon, and I’m very excited for the new year to begin. While homeschooling isn’t absent of challenges, I love being my children’s teacher.

I started my morning in the garden. I have a feeling that at least one Tomato Hornworm is evading me, and I’m waiting for blacklight flashlights to arrive in the mail so we can find those suckers. I harvested tomatoes and zucchini and pruned some dying leaves back before heading inside.

We made a spur of the moment decision to purchase a local kitten last night, and so I slipped downstairs to check on him. He’s a tuxedo cat whom my daughter named Toby. I hope he will learn to keep our occasional mouse intruders at bay.

Today was bill pay day for me, so I sat down for a few minutes to pay our internet and car tag bills. I then looked over our planned curriculum choices for the year and purchased the most important things. Our savings don’t look as good as I had hoped this month, so I’m going to stretch our curriculum purchases over several of my husband’s paychecks. We also have new instruments and extracurriculars to pay for next month.

After pulling a chicken from the freezer, I got to work on a couple of orders from my Etsy shop. The puppy and unicorn shirts came out looking good! I also researched a couple new possibilities for tea towel designs. Such fun!

In between these things, I spoke to my husband on the phone, talked to my children, fed Moses, and squeezed in a YouTube workout video. Not bad! I also set up my computer so my son could upload his latest YouTube video on his music channel.

It has been a good morning. I hope you are having a lovely day as well!

A Homemaker’s Day: May 5, 2021

The day seemed to dawn early this morning. After a long night with a little one, I would have been quite happy to stay in bed!

After rising for the day, I got dressed and fixed a cup of milk for my little guy. I then settled in to pump and watched part of Jamerill Stewart’s newest video. I probably will only be pumping for a few more days, which is bittersweet. Moses will be eighteen months old in two days, which was my goal. I can hardly believe his “nursing strike” was the real deal and I’ve been pumping for four months!

I then started helping my second grader with her math assignment. With a little bit of prodding, she decided to double up on lessons and finish her Masterbooks 2 curriculum. I also logged into to HSLDA to renew my membership.

After checking some schoolwork, I settled in to work on a few Etsy orders. Today I made a floral pink skirt, a blue tribal skirt, and a yellow quarterfoil pattered skirt. Lots of lovely skirts! I really enjoy making these items of clothing for little ones.

After bringing tomato and watermelon starts outside, I remembered I had forgotten to start dinner! I quickly put an onion, a chicken breast, a can of cream of chicken soup, and a can of rotel in the crock pot on high around lunch time. Forty minutes before dinner was to be served I baked a spaghetti squash in the oven and added two cups of cheese to the crock pot. An easy and fast dinner!

I made granola bars and put my second load of laundry in the wash before putting Moses down for a nap. I also worked on a website where I’m selling debt free/financial items.

After Moses woke up, my little guys and I went out to the garden. I mounded dirt around our potato plants and weeded around the peppers and calendula. It still has a long way to go, but the garden is getting there!

After speaking to my daughter on the phone, we sat down for dinner. We then visited the goats, and I got back to work on laundry.

It has been a busy, but blessed day. I’m so grateful to have the privilege of spending each day with my family. All of my days are similar, but different. It’s always exciting to wonder what the next day will hold. Can you relate?

How has your day went? I hope it was a good one!

A Homemaker’s Day || April 7, 2021

Spring is here, and my days have become more full. Besides tending to normal household things, I also get to work outdoors. Yay! As much as I love it, I usually fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow.

Yesterday was no different. After assigning schoolwork and feeding Moses his cereal, I decided to sew the dress my eight-year-old had been begging me to make. She wanted a pink dress with white sleeves, a belt, and a bow. She was quite detailed with her description, and I hope I lived up to her expectations, ha! I went to my computer and found a very old peasant dress pattern that I had purchased off of etsy years ago. After making the pattern by taping together various pieces of paper, I began to make it. After about an hour it was finished, and thankfully she loved it. Now I must make a barnyard and heart dress for my other two young daughters.

I put a load of laundry in the wash and started to fold a different load before my daughter Morgan made homemade pizza for lunch. Yum!

Moses rode on my back to check on our goats and tend to the garden. One of our doelings has grown hoarse from all of her bleating. Bless her. Hopefully she will get used to her new home soon. They are doing very well, and we brushed them before pulling up some weeds for our chickens to enjoy.

I eyed our yard…I just purchased a bag of milky spore to put out soon. We had a crazy amount of Japanese Beetles attack out plants last spring, and hopefully this will somewhat prevent them.

We watered the seedlings that are now lining our front porch along with the seed potatoes I had picked up from Ace Hardware over the weekend. At this point, some of my kiddos had finished their school work, and wildflower picking had commenced! My oldest son also helped mix more soil for our raised beds, which is a combination of compost, top soil, and peat moss.

After doing another laundry swap, I asked my children to pick up the living/dining room area while Moses napped. Afterwards, a simple dinner of tacos was started while I scrambled to make my husband a batch of granola bars before he returned home from work.

After dinner I folded another load of laundry before heading outside to plant seven hydrangea starts I had taken from cuttings at our cabin in the fall. Hydrangeas were our wedding flower, and I just love them. My husband helped me dig the holes, and I added fresh garden soil and organic fertilizer around them from Walmart. I hope they all make it!

We finished the day by watching the new episode of Weed ‘Em and Reap, slightly devastated that they are selling Stella, ha! After the kids bedtime routine, I was ready to fall asleep myself. It had been a long, but good, day.

Now a new day is here, and I’m excited to see what it will hold. I hope you have a great one, friends!
