I have such hope for my children. I hope for them to have a happy life, and to one day fully pursue their interests in their home and career. But more importantly, I hope for them to love the Lord, and to grow in Him more each day. I hope for them to fully surrender their lives to Him.
But of course, it doesn’t always turn out that way, and sometimes we see rebellion. (In full disclosure, sometimes we parents rebel, too. I’m so thankful for God’s grace and mercy!) God’s children rebelled before, as well. This was a pretty big deal. When the children of Israel rebelled, Jeremiah wrote, “My hope is perished from the Lord (YHWH).” (Lamentations 3:18)
Before I go any further, I would like to mention that as mothers, we cannot expect that the way we raise our children will ensure that they will follow the Lord. I fell into this trap for way too long. God’s own children, His chosen people, turned from His ways. If God is the ultimate and perfect good Father, and His children strayed, we cannot expect our children to walk the straight and narrow because of what we do. This is both freeing and terrifying.

Sometimes it feels like our hope has perished based on a choice our children made. We feel like all is lost.
But if we continue on in Lamentations, just a few verses further, we see that even though we might feel like hope is lost…it’s not. We have reason to hold onto great hope, even in the bleakest of circumstances.
It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
Lamentations 3:22-23

Despite the problems we might face, we can keep on hoping. The Lord’s mercies are new every morning! We can rest assured that He loves you, and He loves your child. We can continue to hope in His Word, and to pray and hope for our children. We will not be consumed!
Rebellion doesn’t have to have the final say. There can be restoration.

This morning I’m hoping in the Lord, while praying and hoping for my children’s good. There is nothing better than having a deep relationship with the Lord. That is what I hope for them.
Let’s continue to walk by faith, friends.
Thank you for stopping by this morning. I “hope” that your day is blessed, and is full of the Father’s love.
