Preparing for the Birth of Our Ninth Child

Since I’m nearing the 38th week of my pregnancy, preparing our hearts and home for our newest little one has been weighing heavily on my mind.

I almost feel “ready,” if that is even possible. While this is our ninth child, I still look forward to each birth with a bit of trepidation since I know what is ahead of me. Plus, I will be delivering at a new hospital for the first time. As many of you know, labor is not easy, but is so worth it.

On preparing my heart…

My heart is both excited and ready to meet our newest little one. I feel more prepared in some ways than when I was a young mother, but at the same time, I know what a big responsibility it is to be a parent at any age or stage.

I pray that my Heavenly Father will somehow use me to lead my baby to Him.

I pray that He will give me discernment and wisdom as I mother our newest blessing.

Being a mother is a big deal, and it pains me that it is often looked down upon as insignificant in our generation. There truly is nothing better than to raise up children for God’s glory. It is important to come before the Father and ask Him for guidance in just about every parenting decision we may come to. Raising babies is a big task, and we can’t do it on our own.

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

James 1:5

There is always room in my mama heart to love and accept another child with open arms. I’m so grateful to God for sending our sweet blessing to us!

On preparing our home…

This week, I’m entering the season of rest I’ve been looking forward to. Most of the “must do” things have been done, and it has been simply lovely to relax. I am having problems with sciatica, and am most comfortable lying down. My family has been very supportive and helpful when I’ve needed to rest.

Over the past week I have gotten a good bit accomplished. I’ve cleaned up our room and brought in an old cabinet to store baby’s things. I’ve washed all of the necessary items and prepped cloth diapers. My husband built a small clothesline for me and I am in love.

Our new clothesline.

Today, I decided to tackle changing our three youngest girl’s wardrobes from summer to fall. It was quite a chore, but I made it through by enjoying the girls excitement as I pulled out the forgotten items.

Tomorrow I am heading to the grocery store, and I might pick up a few organizational items while there. Nesting is happening full force in our home!

Oh, and my husband installed our car seat in his truck two days ago. This makes everything seem more real, doesn’t it? I’m just so excited to meet our newest little guy!

And now, we settle in and wait. I’m so thankful for our cozy little home and for my family.
