The Proverbs 31 Woman | Verse 13

She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.

Proverbs 31:13

Welcome back to another discussion about the Proverbs 31 Woman! I love to glean wisdom from these verses. While I know I will never be the “perfect woman,” I definitely want to be a lady who seeks God’s best for every aspect of my life. Reading and applying the Scriptures is so important, friends!

Verse thirteen of Proverbs 31 speaks of a woman who goes out to find wool and flax, likely to spin them into clothing. I think that an important take away of this verse is that she went to look for what she needed, instead of waiting for supplies to be brought to her. She took an active role in working willingly for her household.

This is such a good example for us. It would be best for us to do whatever it takes to serve our families, whether it is convenient or not.

In today’s modern times, this probably will look different than it did during Biblical times. While we still might visit markets, we also can make online purchases. This is certainly easier than what the Proverbs 31 Woman did.

When we actively seek out goods for our households, it is good to make a plan. I love to write simple lists in my planner, at least a week ahead of time. Depending on our needs, I might plan on a monthly, or even a yearly basis. This helps me immensely. When I make a plan, I am prepared.

Sometimes time slips away from me, and I forget to prepare. When this happens, I am much more likely to become frazzled. I also might forget to purchase an item that my family really needs. This has definitely happened to me before! Life seems so much easier when I remember to plan accordingly.

There have been times when I realized that our home wasn’t running as smoothly as it could be, and I’ve had to reevaluate some priorities. Was I spending my time wisely? Did I need to cut out time in my Etsy shop? How about social media? Did I need to spend less time there?

I am so grateful that the Lord will meet us where we are, and will help us. He is such a good Father! He gently leads us on the path to righteousness.

The Proverbs 31 Woman | Verse 12

She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.

Proverbs 31:12

I want to do my husband good and not evil all the days of my life! There have been times when I have sabotaged my efforts, however.

Do you ever feel the same? I think we all probably have areas that we can work on to become a more excellent wife. Plus, our husbands are all different. We need to learn all that we can about them to discover what will do them good.

My husband seems at his best when I am joyful. It definitely does him good!

I have been asking the Lord to help cultivate a joyful spirit within myself. One of the reasons I have done this is for my husband’s benefit.

I have realized that one my husband’s main objectives in life is to make me happy. He really gives it his all.

But when I let little silly things bother me that don’t even relate to him, my joy can seem elusive. Then he wonders what he has done wrong.

Friends, I don’t want this to be so!

To bring good to our husbands, we should be mindful of our actions.

Are we being content? Are we prone to grumble? Do we support his efforts rather than accuse him of being a failure?

These are all things areas we might need to take a closer look at while asking the Lord to help us conform to His image.

An excellent wife does her husband good by being a good steward of her time while he is at work, and by being content with what he provides. She knows that God will supply all of their needs.

An excellent wife doesn’t compare her husband’s income with others. This will bring our husbands so much good, and will remove stress from our homes.

Asking the Lord to work in our lives will help us so much, ladies. We can concentrate on growing the fruits of the Spirit in our lives instead of dwelling on the negatives we face each day. Goodness, would this bring our husbands good!

I think it is sobering that this verse talks about the frequency that we do our husbands good. We should be working on it each and every day of our lives. Being an excellent wife is definitely a full time job!

But we can take heart, knowing that the Lord is good, and will provide us with the tools to complete our task each step of the way. I consistently ask Him for more contentment, joy, and peace.

I hope that you are encouraged today in your role of wife. It is such a blessing to be helpers to our husbands, and I want to learn more about this honorable task each and every day.
