When God Says Wait

Good morning, friends. Today I woke up with a very sore eye. Yesterday, my two-year-old gave me a black eye for the very first time ever! He is a strong little guy, ha! I was laying on my back and he was sitting on my stomach looking at me so sweetly…and then, wham! He reared back and slammed his head into mine with such force I didn’t know what happened for a second. I’ve used ice and lavender oil to help with healing. It seems to be helping, but goodness, it hurts!

This morning I’ve been thinking about God’s will, and how to embrace it. Lately, I’ve been searching for answers about a couple of situations in my life, and I am not sure which path to take. I really want there to be a clear answer. Do you know what I mean?

Sometimes the answer is “wait.” But oh, this doesn’t feel so good to someone like me, who wants to see some sort of progress.

But God’s will isn’t necessarily going to fit inside of my timeline. So many times, He wants to teach me something in the moments of waiting.

In the quiet of the morning, I feel the magnitude of waiting…the importance of it. It is where lessons are learned in quiet Bible study. It is where hearts can be turned to God, and where they can grow more in tune with Him.

Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass. He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, And your justice as the noonday. Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass. Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; Do not fret—it only causes harm.

Psalms 37:4‭-‬8 NKJV

We can feel like we are doing all of the things…delighting ourselves to the Lord, and committing our ways to Him. Trusting in Him. So we wonder why He is asking us to wait.

Later in this chapter, we are also exhorted to rest and wait patiently for the Lord. It all goes together, friends! We aren’t to fret when we see the ungodly prospering in his way, and here we are, still waiting.

Therefore I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; My God will hear me.

Micah 7:7 NKJV

While we are waiting, we can trust that God is near, and He hears us. We simply need to trust and obey, continuing on the path He has set before us.

Even if it’s quiet.

Even if it’s heavy.

Even if it’s not quite what we expected.

I hope you are encouraged today to wait on the Lord. He cares for you so much, friends.
