Free Month of May Digital Download

I can hardly believe April is almost gone. This spring has been flying by! It has been such a good month at our home, and I hope you’ve enjoyed it, too.

I recently put together a Month of May print, and I thought I would share it with you today. It’s an 8 x 10 JPG, and it reads:

May is the month for flowers, bright skies, and new beginnings.

I hope you enjoy this print, and it lights up your home or workplace. I personally am really excited about May. We have a camping trip planned for the middle of the month…well, kind of a camping trip, anyway. We’ll be staying at a state park cabin, so while we won’t be exactly “roughing it,” I’m counting it as camping.

You can download your printable directly from this page by clicking the “Download” link above, or if you’d prefer, it is available on Dropbox as well.

No. 8: Notes from Home | My Creek Dreams are Coming True

What a morning it’s been. My children and I spent time outdoors and going through schoolwork. The kitchen got wiped down, and I’m preparing to boil a big batch of eggs. But through it all, I’ve been absolutely elated.

As some of you may know, we moved three times from 2017-2020. It was exhausting. We did this to get out of debt by downsizing, and then finally purchasing a slightly bigger property that needed a lot of renovations.

One of our homes during this time was a small cabin on a creek. Owning land that a creek flowed through was never on my radar. But friends, it was so nice and relaxing. When we sold that property, I consoled myself by thinking that hopefully, we could find a small unrestricted piece of land with a creek soon.

It has been three years now, and the property market has been on a wild ride. This spring however, we found a couple of contenders. About a month ago, we put in an offer on a property for $10,000 over the asking price, and were outbid.

Yesterday we visited another property that was for sale, knowing another offer was already on the table. It was 3.8 acres with 350 feet of creek frontage. And friends, I tried not to get my hopes up!

We got there, and it was quite a trek to make it to the creek. Mountain properties are often like this though, and it really is to be expected. When we reached the bottom of the hill, the creek took my breath away. My daughters were glad they wore their rain boots, because they quickly jumped in.

This is exactly what I hoped for. A creek that is fun to wade in, but not too deep. I could imagine hours of summer fun in our future.

As a bonus, trillium dotted the landscape. Since I had just planted trillium roots in the woods at our home, this made my heart so happy.

After discussing it, my husband and I put in an offer, and then I held my breath. I really didn’t want to get my hopes up.

This morning, our offer was accepted. After years of hoping for a place like this again, it might be becoming a reality.

We still need to have a survey and perk test done (though for now, we just want to use it for recreational purposes), and we are set to close in July if all goes well.

And guys, I am just so excited.

After years of downsizing, it is nice to feel like we are starting to build. Not that owning homes or land is the most important thing…it’s not. Loving our families and being thankful for whatever we have outweighs these things by a longshot.

But it can feel really hard when we downsize…I know I missed previous homes so much, although I knew it was right to give them up. Now, I am beginning to see the process playing out in a positive way.

Thanks so much for stopping by. I hope your day is full of good things!

Saturday Plans and Earth Day

Good morning, friends. Ah, the weekend is here. Are you excited?

It’s going to be a beautiful day. I just know it.

Monday is Earth Day, and I talked my husband into taking me to a little town we used to live in this afternoon. We brought home a couple of our babies there, and it is very special to me.

What does that have to do with Earth Day, you may ask?

Well, I plan to purchase plants there! Hopefully we can get them into the ground on Monday. It sure sounds meaningful and special to me.

In honor of Earth Day, I sent in an extra donation to the Audubon Society, too. I believe they are doubling donations at the moment if you are interested.

Last night, I took a walk around my yard. It was so peaceful. I planted calendula and marigolds, and snapped photos of plants I would like to identify. Then I sat on my porch as the sky grew dark and insects began to sing. Ah, perfect.

This year has been full of changes for me, and I’ve found such solace in my garden. I hope I don’t bore you with the details. It’s just such a a special place to me right now, and I can’t help but talk about it.

After plant shopping this afternoon, we hope to visit one of our favorite restaurants in the area, for old times sake.

I am one of the most sentimental people I know, and I am just so excited.

I thought I’d leave with you a few pieces of my garden and a book recommendation before I go. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

This wild blackberry took root right next to my fence, so I trained it to it. It’s starting to bloom!

This is a St. John’s Wort plant. I threw seeds in this area a couple of years ago. Thyme is growing around it.

I am loving this book right now. One day, a no-mow yard is my goal.
